Heritage Series Gallery
The Heritage Series Gallery features old buildings, many of which no longer exist. The artist has done extensive research to present these buildings as they would have been in their prime. | Three Sisters of Nauset Beach The Three Sisters Lights are painted as they would have looked around 1870-1880 on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Lights are part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. | | Harbor View The Harbor of Refuge Light in Delaware Bay stands at the end of the breakwater near the port at Lewes, Delaware. The Delaware Bay & River Association has undertaken extensive restoration work on this light. In the artist’s mind, this cottage might have existed late in the 19th century. | | Fine Day at Sea Girt Light This Victorian light is located in Sea Girt, New Jersey, and was the last light to be built on the Atlantic Coast. It reflects the quiet charm of seaside New Jersey in the Victorian era. | | Mispillion Light Mispillion Light was located beside the Delaware Bay near Milford, Delaware. The light was discontinued in 1857 and sold into private ownership. It was moved to Milford and used as a residence. It was struck by lightning and burned in 2002. | | The Spirit of Cape Henlopen Cape Henlopen Light no longer stands, a victim of a locomoting dune that ultimately consumed the land and led to the final demise of the light during a howling storm on a late winter day in 1925. | | Nor'easter A-coming The artist presents his vision of the Sankaty head Light in Nantucket, Massachusetts, circa 1850. As the sun sets, a storm races inland, and a small sailboat heads for safe harbor. | | Good Old Times at Cape Hatteras Cape Hatteras Light is on the Outer banks in North Carolina. In 1873 the light received its familiar black and white spirals. The light is shown here around 1950, before the beach began to show signs of serious erosion. | | Manor House in Summer This stately manor house in Pennsylvania’s Valley Forge National Park served as General Washington’s headquarters, and stirs thoughts of our nation’s beginning and life in colonial times. |
