Drawing Tools:
Tips for Watercolor Artists

Because at times I paint very detailed paintings, I use a lot of Drawing Tools as I lay out my composition before I start painting. These include a T-Square, French Curves, Irregular Curves, a Compass set, Triangular Scaled Rulers, Protractors, a good set of Triangles as well as Mechanical Drawing Pencils and an Eraser. When I use an eraser, I keep an old soft brush handy to whisk away the debris.

These items are available in art or art and craft stores, as well as online sites that feature art and craft supplies. Rulers come in various lengths, such as 6, 12 or 18 inches, and may be made of clear plastic, aluminum, or stainless with a non-skid backing. Triangles may feature a 45-90 degree combination, or a 30-60 degree combination. They are available in varying lengths. T-Squares may be made of aluminum or wood with an acrylic edge.

There are many types and brands of drawing pencils and erasers. Spend some time in your local arts and crafts store, or surf the web and become familiar with the wide range of these special tools that are available.

My choice of paper, paints, brushes and other supplies are based on my experience and personal preference. If you have questions, please contact me.
