Artist Lee M. Buchanan
Artist Lee M. Buchanan is noted for captivating portrayals of picturesque, local every day America. He is also known for painting detailed colorful watercolors in his art. Working exclusively in watercolors, Lee travels the countryside searching out his next project. His constant search sometimes takes him to locations of historic interest or of a more artistic interest. These historic projects are what Lee calls The Heritage Series--his signature trademark.
The Heritage Series currently includes six lighthouse images. Each piece in this series had its origins with a story, or an old photo or print of the building. The artist has done extensive research from his own library, or from archives in the local area. He has visited the site of the building, if possible, and talked with people in the area. Lee M. Buchanan operates his own publishing house, appropriately named Heritage Visual Arts, Inc.. The company was established in 1994, and Lee directs the printing of his limited and open edition prints and any promotional material needed to market his art. Mr. Buchanan is a self-taught artist. He is an associate member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the American Watercolor Society and the American Society of Marine Artists. Being a Marine Artist is another of Lee’s loves and he is working on doing a portfolio of Marine art to include in his Heritage Series. Mr. Buchanan supports lighthouse preservation and education through his memberships in the American Lighthouse Foundation and the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation and local historical societies around the country.
